Lear Corporation's United Way Pledges Top $1 Million; Set New Record with 28 Percent Increase
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Nov. 27 Lear Corporation
and its employees in the metropolitan Detroit area set a new record for
charitable giving by pledging in excess of $1,000,000 in contributions to the
Torch Drive Fund through the 2000 United Way employee solicitation campaign.
Lear has consistently earned one of the top positions among Tier 1
automotive suppliers in contributions to United Way Community Services, and
this year's total contribution of $1,176,754 was no exception. The million-
dollar milestone represents an increase of 28 percent over 1999 when Lear
Corporation and its employees pledged $920,000, and far surpasses the
company's goal to increase contributions in 2000 by 6 percent.
Leadership giving by Lear employees, which represents a donation of $1,000
or more, increased 45 percent -- from $448,000 in 1999 to $650,000 this year.
"At Lear, our mission to 'Advance Relentlessly' was evident in the
tremendous generosity of Lear employees through their financial support to
United Way," said Bob Rossiter, Lear Corporation President and CEO. "I'm
extremely proud of the Lear team, which consistently goes beyond the call of
duty whether it comes to the work environment or their willingness to support
our local community."
The success of the United Way campaign at Lear was an important factor in
the overall United Way drive for 2000, which raised $75.3 million in funds to
be allocated to more than 130 health and human service agencies in Detroit, as
well as in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.
Lear Corporation, a Fortune 150 company headquartered in Southfield,
Mich., USA, focuses on automotive interiors and electronics, and is the
world's fifth-largest automotive supplier. Sales in 1999 were $12.4 billion.
The company's world-class products are designed, engineered and manufactured
by more than 120,000 employees in over 300 facilities located in 33 countries.
