(PRNewsFoto)[TC] SYDNEY AUS 11/27/2000SYDNEY, Australia, Nov. 27 Ad-A-Cab International Operations continues the global expansion of their popular rooftop Taxi advertising product. For the first time in North America, Ad-A-Cab has signed an operating agreement with Merge Computer Graphics, a family owned digital imaging company based in Livonia, Michigan. Merge will begin operating its new business unit effective immediately under the name Communicab, and will promote taxi advertising technology of the future. (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20001127/DEM001 ) Ad-A-Cab Managing Director, Bob Binning said, "We are enthused to finally have our first licensee in the United States. This allows us the opportunity to properly introduce our rooftop advertising delivery system. We are particularly optimistic about this relationship because they are a first-rate digital imaging firm, and exceptional signs are crucial to the success of a transit advertising business." The license agreement permits Communicab to effectively manage the Michigan Region, which includes Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Western New York. The first units are expected to start operation throughout Metro-Detroit as early as February 2001. Taxi advertising is anything but new. The original concept for today's Ad-A-Cab system was first envisioned over 15 years ago from less ingenuous units found operating throughout the USA. Ad-A-Cab took a basic idea and made it better, much better. In fact, the stylish aerodynamic design found instant appeal in major markets around the world with both advertisers and taxi owners. Advertisers were attracted to the design and the bright lighting of the unit, while taxi owners found favor as it provided additional safety and technological features, increased hail business by 30% in some cases, and satisfied all the equipment requirements to operate as a taxi. Ad-A-Cab General Manager Steve Cleary said, "Advertisers who never previously considered transit advertising found favor and success utilizing our system. The most recent example was during the Sydney Olympics, where American Express bought 300 units that proved to be a very important part of their outdoor campaign before, during, and after the games." Since the first top was put on the streets of Sydney in 1992, over 1,600 units now operate throughout Australia. Beyond Australia, Ad-A-Cab units are utilized in New Zealand, Malaysia, Philippines, India, and Brazil. Recently, this year, Brazil received and sent their first 1,700 units directly to be installed on cabs in Rio de Janeiro. Other countries awaiting final licensing approval are Canada, Ireland, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and other regions of the USA. Commenting on Detroit as their first North American city, Bob Binning said, "We were particularly hopeful our first opportunity in the USA might be in the Detroit market. Prior to signing the agreement with Merge, our investigation proved Detroit to be an excellent opportunity for the tremendous improvements taking place throughout the city. We are very excited to see Communicab succeed."
