Collins & Aikman Names Smail and Woolford to Its GM Business Unit

    TROY, Mich.--Nov. 21, 2000--Collins & Aikman Corporation today named John M. Smail, Vice President and G. Mark Woolford as Director, Commercial and Program Management for the Company's General Motors Business Unit. In making today's announcement, Steve Jeske, Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing for the North American Automotive Interior Systems Division, commented, "Both Smail and Woolford bring many years of automotive experience to Collins & Aikman. Their expertise will help further enhance and support the Company's vision and mission to be a leading supplier of automotive interior systems to our global customers."
    John M. Smail is named Vice President for Collins & Aikman's GM Business Unit. In this capacity, Smail will be responsible for supporting and growing Collins & Aikman's GM business. Additionally, he will be responsible for developing and implementing business strategies to reinforce the Company's overall commitment to General Motors worldwide. Prior to joining Collins & Aikman, Smail was GM Business Unit Director at Plastech, Inc., where he was responsible for sales, account and program management, and quality initiatives for the customer. In addition to Plastech, Smail has also held several key assignments throughout his career with Lear Corporation, Becker Manufacturing, Inc., and Chrysler Corporation. He holds a bachelor's of science degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan State University and a MBA from Oakland University.
    G. Mark Woolford is named Director of Commercial and Program Management for the Company's GM Business Unit. As Director, Woolford will be responsible for strengthening Collins & Aikman's relationship with this key customer and will be the point-of-contact for growing Collins & Aikman business with General Motors. Prior to joining Collins & Aikman, Woolford held several sales and account management positions at Lear Corporation for its GM Business Unit. In addition to his automotive supplier background, Woolford also brings significant purchasing, marketing and sales experience having worked at American Motors, Volkswagen of America, Van Dresser Corporation and JPS Automotive. He holds a bachelor's of science degree in business from Central Michigan University and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Detroit.
