Seasons Greening: Eco-CEO Gives Gift to Planet Earth
PLEASANTON, Calif, Nov. 21 They call him the "Eco-CEO,"
and his license plate says the same. Leave it to Robert Schults, president
and CEO of Shaklee Corporation, with its energy efficient,
environmentally-designed headquarters in Pleasanton, California, to come up
with the ultimate holiday gift: a bright, shiny, new silver Toyota Prius.
The much-in-demand Prius is the world's first mass-produced hybrid vehicle
that combines a highly fuel efficient gasoline engine with an electric motor,
powered by a battery that never needs recharging, and runs 86 percent cleaner
than average automobiles. The Prius averages 66 miles per gallon and emits
50 percent less CO2.
Schults decided to trade in his company car for the Prius as well as offer
it as part of the Shaklee Bonus Car Program that the company's
500,000 U.S. based independent distributors can qualify for based on their
sales.
"I'm tying this ribbon on for Planet Earth and Shaklee," says Schults.
"Our founding mission is living in harmony with nature," says Schults, "so
it's only appropriate that we add this car to our company's fleet and
encourage everyone to become more eco-friendly." Schults adds, "Besides, it's
a great time of year to 'go green.'"
Schults plans to take his message to the public, too. He has had his
Prius painted with a large leaf, symbolizing Shaklee's commitment to the
environment and its business leadership role in reducing greenhouse gas
emissions.
Earlier this spring, Shaklee U.S. was named the nation's first Climate
Neutral Certified Company for its complete offset of its greenhouse gas
emissions, meaning that Shaklee leaves no environmental footprint. Shaklee
has since garnered numerous environmental awards for its company wide
initiatives, including the prestigious 2000 Earth Day New York Environmental
Business Award and 2000 BEN Environmental Award, among others.
"Our world headquarters facility," says Schults, "was designed as a living
exhibit of energy efficiency with extensive construction using sustainable
materials. Our distributors sell skin care products that carry a number of
patents and offer serious protection from UV exposure, as well as
performance-based nutrition products that use the highest quality natural
ingredients. This gift simply underscores our total commitment to our
company's mission."
Founded in 1956, Shaklee is a global consumer products company, recognized
as an industry pioneer with a trusted name in health and wellness. For more
