Dana Corporation Recognizes its Top Suppliers During Annual ConferenceTOLEDO, Ohio, Nov. 20 Dana Corporation recently recognized its top suppliers during its sixth annual Supplier Conference held at the company's Technical Resource Park in Ottawa Lake, Mich. (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/19990903/DANA ) More than 100 suppliers from seven countries attended the event -- culminating a year in which Dana communicated its expectations to more than 1,000 suppliers during similar events in Europe and South America, as well as various divisional supplier conferences. Six suppliers received the Dana Diamond Award, which recognizes the company's top suppliers. The winner for North America was Worthington Steel, a steel supplier based in Catawba, S.C. Other regional winners were forging supplier DBM Elbe Group, of Mantova, Italy; Continental do Brasil, a brake- systems supplier based in Sao Paulo, Brazil; and Yamaguchi Electric, a Tokyo- based manufacturer of electronic controls. Omega Industries, Lincoln Park, Mich., a machining services provider, was recognized in the minority-owned supplier category, and Seco, of Sagersta, Sweden, a supplier of cutting tools, was honored in the non-production category. The Dana Diamond awards are driven by Dana's balanced scorecard supplier- rating system. The balanced scorecard allows Dana to objectively assess its supply base while rewarding those suppliers that meet its stringent business goals. Dana Chairman and CEO Joe Magliochetti said, "We are pleased to have so many excellent suppliers as we work to transform our industry's value chain. It is important to us that we recognize and honor those suppliers that achieve the highest standards of excellence in their support of our business." Doug Grimm, director of global strategic sourcing, said, "Our balanced- scorecard rating system is a tremendous tool in helping us drive continuous improvement with our suppliers. Our customers expect a streamlined value chain, and this tool helps us to analyze opportunities. "In addition, Dana reviewed its business-to-business Internet strategy with suppliers. This will play an integral role in continuing to transforming Dana's supply chain."
