Three Federal-Mogul Facilities Recommended for ISO 14001 Certification
    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Nov. 20 Federal-Mogul Corporation's
manufacturing facilities in Michigan City, Indiana; Orangeburg,
South Carolina; and Skokie, Illinois, have been recommended for certification
by the Det Norske Veritas (DNV) registrar firm as meeting the prestigious,
global ISO 14001 standard for Environmental Management Systems.
"Federal-Mogul is moving rapidly to implement environmental management
systems that meet the global ISO 14001 standard and at the same time, is
taking the innovative step of applying the same management system to
occupational health and safety," said Roger Strelow, director, Corporate
Environmental, Health and Safety. "Orangeburg, Skokie, and Michigan City are
the first Federal-Mogul facilities to achieve dual certification in both
environment and occupational health and safety management. Federal-Mogul is
leading the way for the automotive industry with its unique commitment to
having an integrated, certified environmental, health and safety management
system."
Certification for ISO 14001 can only be gained by companies who have
demonstrated the determination and management practices needed to prevent
pollution.
The ISO 14001 standard requires each operating facility to:
    * Comply fully with applicable laws and continuously improve performance.
    * Identify its major environmental impacts and set objectives and targets
for minimizing those impacts.
    * Use standard operating procedures, rooted in best practices, to meet
the plant's goals.
    * Set performance measures and regularly audit performance.
    * Train employees to ensure they understand their roles and
responsibilities for maintaining ISO 14001 standards.

Federal-Mogul's wiper manufacturing facility in Michigan City, Friction
Products facility in Orangeburg, and the Sealing Products facility in Skokie,
are each QS-9000 and ISO 9001 registered, and have identified recycling
projects to achieve savings in energy and water usage, and to reduce the risk
of pollution from any of their activities.
Federal-Mogul plants with ISO 14001 certification include the Powertrain
Product plants in Manitowoc and Germantown, Wisconsin; Lake City, Minnesota;
Bradford, Bridgwater and Elstead, England; Burscheid, Dresden, Friedberg,
Nuremberg and Wiesbaden, Germany; Roodepoort and Pinetown, South Africa; St.
