RESPONSE Licenses Next Generation Telematics Technology From Navox, a C-MAC Subsidiary

    COLUMBIA, Md.--Nov. 20, 2000--

Enables Advanced Simultaneous Voice and Data Telematics Services Across Multiple Cellular Technologies

RESPONSE Services Center, LLC announced today that it has become the first licensee of the in-band simultaneous voice and data (SVD) wireless communications technology developed by Navox Corporation, a subsidiary of C-MAC Industries Inc. The companies will collaborate to offer telematics and location-based services during 2001.
RESPONSE, a wholly-owned subsidiary of AAA and based in Columbia, Maryland, is implementing a world-class, next-generation telematics and location-based service infrastructure capable of supporting a wide variety of applications.
"A key problem facing telematics and location-based service providers is how to communicate location and other data while simultaneously using voice cellular technologies such as AMPS, TDMA, CDMA and GSM," said Bill Tolhurst, RESPONSE vice president of Planning and Alliances.
"Consumers expect service providers to communicate by voice and determine their location without delays, annoying modem tones or blanks in the conversation. This is especially true in delivering emergency services to a roadside breakdown or after an accident," Tolhurst said. Navox' SVD technology makes this essential capability available in a secure and cost-effective manner."
"We are very pleased that RESPONSE has selected Navox as its technology partner for this critical component of their system," said Denis Marchand, President and CEO of Navox. "Our SVD technology was evaluated extensively during the selection process and RESPONSE recognized the unique capabilities that allows our product to provide their customers with an outstanding telematics experience. Navox SVD technology is complemented by our new high-speed full-band data modem. Both technologies can be used in tandem, providing for a complete telematics solution that can support a large range of applications; totally transparently for the user, and all with only one phone, one call and one activation."
Dennis Wood, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of C-MAC, the majority owner of Navox added, "Navox state of the art SVD wireless communications product demonstrates the depth of C-MAC's technology and its commitment to innovation."
