Perkins Implements Major E-Business Project Using Enigma Solution
BURLINGTON, Mass.--Nov. 20, 2000--Enigma, the leading provider of business-to-business e-commerce solutions for the capital equipment aftermarket, has signed a contract with Perkins Engines Company Limited, the world's leader in diesel and natural gas engines, to implement an e-catalog for spare parts as the first of a number of e-business programs. Both Enigma and Perkins Engines Company Limited have committed to a three-year development program. In the initial project, Perkins will provide their network of genuine Perkins and OEM distributors with digitized parts and service information during 2001. Distributors and customers will benefit from faster access to better information, improving order accuracy. The solution allows better use of inventory where it is needed to support high-end customer fill levels through streamlined order processes that are being developed by Perkins.
Enigma's transactive content solution enables Perkins parts and service information to be delivered electronically, permitting it to be shared with distributors in real time over the Internet. The electronic delivery of illustrated parts catalogs, user handbooks, workshop manuals and service bulletins will provide a single point of reference for all Perkins content regardless of original data format.
The e-business platform will be based on Enigma's XML architecture, providing intelligent parametric search and navigation tools, dynamic information updates and integration with existing business processes and systems. Enigma will design and deploy the initial application, which will then be managed and maintained by Perkins.
With more than 7 million Perkins engines in operation around the world, customers depend on the company and its network to keep these engines running. The need to deliver maintenance and repair solutions, comprised of spare parts, technical services and up-to-date information, is key to customer satisfaction and profitable business growth.
"This program is a significant milestone for advancing e-business in Perkins," said George Curry, director and general manager responsible for customer and product support services at Perkins. "Creating customer solutions in an e-business enabled environment is critical for spare parts sales growth. The Enigma solution creates a strong competitive advantage for both Perkins and our channel partners by providing much needed information along with parts availability."
In announcing the contract, Jonathan Yaron, CEO of Enigma, said, "Content is at the heart of the customer relationship. Sharing best practices, in the form of aftermarket support, means that manufacturers maximize their value to customers, driving equipment performance and ROI."
