AMA: Californian wins Kawasaki ZX6R in AMA drawing
22 November 2000
PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- Karen Mix Wilson didn't give much thought to actually winning the 2000 Kawasaki ZX6R being given away by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) when she filled out an AMA Pro Club bike giveaway sweepstakes form in July. So the Oakland, California, resident was ecstatic when she learned she had won following the October drawing. "I can't believe it," she said. "I'm almost in tears. I'm so excited I have total chills right now." Wilson, 35, filled out the sweepstakes form at the AMA Pro Club tent while attending the historic AMA/World Superbike weekend at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California. Like thousands of other AMA members at rounds of the AMA Chevy Trucks U.S. Superbike Championship this year, she dropped by the Pro Club tent to relax between races, get something cold to drink and check out official results from the track. Wilson is a first-year AMA member who has been riding since 1998. Her regular ride is a 1989 Honda GB500. She was looking forward to riding what she called "amazing" roads near her home on her new ZX6R. And, she said, the Kawasaki would mean one more thing around the house. "New leathers for me!"
