Legal Aid and Defender Bestows Pro Bono Award on GM Attorney and Aide
DETROIT, Nov. 17 Legal Aid and Defender Association, Inc.
has bestowed its annual Excellence in Pro Bono Partnership Award on Maynard L.
Timm, a staff attorney for General Motors Corporation, and Sharon Ledoux,
his legal assistant.
In the last couple of years, Timm has handled several pro bono cases for
clients of Legal Aid and Defender. In one of them, a landlord illegally
locked a client out of his apartment, causing him to lose his belongings
and rendering him homeless. The case was referred by Legal Services Clinic
of the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association and assigned to Timm. Working
with Ledoux and Joon Sung, a Legal Aid and Defender staff attorney, Timm
filed a lockout suit against the landlord that resulted in a $4,000
settlement for the client.
"Maynard Timm has shown a commitment to pro bono over the years and has
partnered with our staff to achieve favorable results for our clients," said
Deierdre L. Weir, executive director of Legal Aid and Defender. "We would
also like to recognize the hard work of Sharon Ledoux, who was an integral
part of the landlord/tenant case."
Timm has been a member of GM's legal staff for 23 years, serving on
Environmental and Safety, Products Liability, and General Litigation sections.
He received a B.A. degree from the University of Michigan in 1973 and a J.D.
degree from Villanova Law School in 1977. He serves as a trustee of the Kirk
in the Hills and the Bloomfield Village Association and is a volunteer for
Habitat for Humanity.
Ledoux has been a GM employee for 24 years. She completed her
undergraduate education at Wayne State University and her legal education at
Oakland University.
