Veridian and RESPONSE Join Forces in Intelligent Transportation Systems Technologies
WASHINGTON--Nov. 16, 2000--Veridian and RESPONSE Services Center LLC, today announced that the companies are working together on a number of initiatives aimed at enhancing the capability and availability of transportation safety, fleet management, and telematics-related services. This relationship was announced during the Public Safety and Transportation Technologies Conference, sponsored by ITS America, held November 15 and 16, 2000 in Washington, D.C.
Veridian's Transportation Sector and RESPONSE, a wholly-owned subsidiary of AAA, will collaborate on bringing multiple intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and telematics applications to the automotive aftermarket.
"Veridian's Transportation Sector has pioneered many of the vehicle safety technologies in use today," said Ed Starosielec, President of Veridian's Transportation Sector. "We have a rich 40-year heritage of safety innovation that has enhanced vehicle crashworthiness and improved occupant restraint systems. Over the last several years, we have employed active sensing and communication technologies to further advance the safety and security of today's motorist. We look forward to our relationship with RESPONSE and hope that the step our two companies are taking today will open the door to more participation from other ITS-involved organizations. We see collaboration as a very effective way to bring technologies to market which will increase transportation safety."
"RESPONSE is committed to integrating 'best-in-class' components into its own world-class telematics service infrastructure," said Bill Tolhurst, Vice President of Planning and Alliances. "Providing cost effective solutions that enable the broad adoption of crash notification and remote diagnosis is a difficult problem, and RESPONSE is very pleased to be the first telematics service provider to be working with Veridian to bring their state-of-the art technologies and long heritage in transportation safety to the consumer."
Both companies will bring well respected and proven ITS capabilities to the relationship. Veridian is a leader in ITS and telematics applications involving Automatic Collision Notification (ACN) Technologies, the most recent evolution of which is the Veridian Crash Detection Module (CDM) an autonomously functioning chipset on a board capable of delivering ACN capabilities to most standard telematics platforms through conventional hardware and software interfaces; Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL); Mobile Computing; E911 Gateway and System Integration Services; and a broad range of network and cyber security and integration technologies. RESPONSE is implementing a world-class, next-generation telematics and location-based services infrastructure capable of supporting a wide variety of telematics applications.
