Visteon Invests $100 Million in Monroe, Michigan Plant
DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 16 Visteon Corporation is
investing $100 million to modernize its Chassis Systems operations at the
Monroe Plant, an action that will position the facility for future growth.
New state-of-the-art machinery and equipment will allow the 1.5-million-
square-foot plant to produce chassis products such as halfshaft and driveshaft
systems for new-model vehicles. In addition, a portion of the investment will
be used to implement new technologies to produce lightweight chassis products
that should result in improved fuel efficiency. The improvements also can
allow the facility to bring in additional catalytic converter business.
"This investment is an example of our commitment to enhance our
manufacturing processes and capabilities in order to include more high-tech
operations," said Ed Buker, vice president and general manager, Visteon
Chassis Systems. "Manufacturing improvements allow us to be more competitive
in the industry and more responsive to our customers' needs."
Improvements to the facility already have begun and are expected to be
completed by 2002.
"I'm confident this project will help provide us with a solid foundation
on which to build a successful future in the Monroe community," said Monroe
Plant Manager Larry Hinkle.
The Monroe Plant, which recently celebrated 50 years of manufacturing, has
nearly 2,200 employees, making the Visteon facility the largest single
employer in Monroe County.
"More than 80 percent of our membership lives in Monroe County," said Les
Burnett, UAW Local 723 bargaining chairman for the Monroe Plant. "This
investment will be good for the UAW families and the rest of the community
because it will help bring our plant into the 21st century. We are very
pleased."
Part of Visteon's Chassis Systems, the Monroe Plant produces a variety of
automotive components including coil springs, stabilizer bars, catalytic
converters and other chassis-related products.
