US SEARCH.com Introduces 'Lemon Check' Offering, Expanding Its Information Services for Consumers; Car Buyers Gain Instant Access to Vehicle History Reports from Carfax

LOS ANGELES--Nov. 16, 2000--In an effort to make it easier for consumers to keep informed about that most challenging of transactions -- buying a used car -- US SEARCH.com , a source of Internet-based information and risk management services, today introduced its new "Lemon Check" vehicle history reporting service.
Accessible through the US SEARCH Web site (www.ussearch.com), the Lemon Check service is provided in partnership with Carfax.com, the Internet's leading provider of national vehicle history information. The move represents the latest expansion of US SEARCH's portfolio of high-value consumer services.
The US SEARCH Lemon Check enables the owner or potential buyer of a used car to learn its history, reducing the risk of surprises in the future. Using an automobile's unique vehicle identification number (VIN), consumers can obtain a vehicle history report in order to check for past ownership, salvage history, odometer fraud and past damage from floods, fires or major accidents. Search results are displayed instantly on the customer's computer screen.
"Our new Lemon Check service is entirely in keeping with our goal of empowering consumers to make better informed, smarter decisions," said Brent Cohen, president and CEO, US SEARCH.com. "Carfax is the ideal partner for us, as together we bring this valuable vehicle history information to consumers. Lemon Check is a genuine bargain -- especially considering that informed car buyers can potentially save thousands of dollars in repairs, to say nothing of the untold hassle and aggravation."
At no charge, consumers can determine whether a specific vehicle has ever been reported as a lemon or repurchased by the manufacturer. To obtain more in-depth information, a single vehicle history report can be obtained for $14.95, and access to an unlimited number of reports over a 60-day period costs $19.95. In addition, Carfax offers a 30-day, 100 percent money-back guarantee on its online vehicle history reports.
Carfax collects vehicle data from state title and registration records, auto and salvage auctions, rental and fleet companies, Canadian motor vehicle departments and other sources.
