Hazzard Warning: Volo Auto Museum's Celebrity Car Division Presents Bo Duke's 'General Lee'VOLO, Ill., Nov. 14 A runaway hit in the 1980s was the fun loving "Dukes of Hazzard". The casting for the show was pure magic: John Schneider as Bo Duke, Tom Wopat as Luke Duke and a 1969 Dodge Charger R/T as the "General Lee". Truth is, there was no single "General Lee". In fact, they destroyed some 210 "General Lee" Dodge Chargers in the jumps and crashes that made the show so exciting. John Schneider, AKA Bo Duke, purchased 4 "General Lee's" at the end of the series. And the Volo Illinois Auto Museum Celebrity Car Division is unveiling one of the surviving "Generals" Thanksgiving Weekend. The "General Lee" was one of the most popular toys of the decade, being produced by several leading toy companies. And toy sales are enjoying a resurgence today. It was also a sure-fire hit on kids' lunch boxes. The original 318 cu. in. engine has just over 30,000 miles on it. And the horn still plays the first 12 notes of "Dixie". Just as it did when the Duke Boys rode to the rescue. This "General Lee" is autographed by several key cast members. The Celebrity Car Division of the Volo Illinois Auto Museum is proud to present Bo Duke's "General Lee" to its many fans and friends -- and to all those kinds who are enjoying "The Duke of Hazzard" in reruns. The Volo Illinois Auto Museum is located near the junction of highways 12 and 120 -- about 45 miles northwest of Chicago. On line, it is located at volocars.com. The Volo complex features 3 Antique Malls with some 300 dealers -- and 4 individual car museums with some 250 collectible cars for sale. The Volo Illinois Auto Museum is the largest of its kind in North America.
