AAA Reports Gas Price Remains Above Dollar and a Half Mark for Sixth Straight Month

    ORLANDO, Fla.--Nov. 14, 2000--Nationwide, the average price of self-serve regular gasoline is $1.547 per gallon; the sixth straight month of gas prices at or above the dollar and a half mark, AAA's daily online Fuel Gauge Report shows.
    This month's average price is up two cents from one month ago, with prices unchanged or slightly higher in all regions of the country. The price is 29.1 cents higher per gallon than last year.

    During the last month, prices increased the most in the Great Lakes region, up 5.4 cents to average $1.542. Prices increased 1.6 cents in the Southwest to $1.515. An increase of one cent occurred in New England, where the gas price averages $1.621 per gallon.
    All other regions of the country experienced stable fuel prices with the Mid-Atlantic region averaging $1.551; Midwest, $1.514; Southeast, $1.457; and West, $1.733.
    Nationwide, the price of self-serve, mid-grade averages $1.643 per gallon, an increase of 2.1 cents from last month and 30.9 cents more expensive than last year.
    Self-serve premium averages $1.703, up 2.3 cents since October and up 32.1 cents in one year.
    The national average prices for self-serve regular in the previous six months were: October $1.527 per gallon; September $1.58; August, $1.496; July, $1.577; June, $1.664; and May $1.465.
    The national average prices for self-serve regular unleaded gasoline for AAA's November survey for the last five years were: 1999, $1.282; 1998, $1.055; 1997, $1.234; 1996, $1.277; and 1995, $1.123.
