AAA Adds 9 Restaurants to Its Five Diamond List; 3 More Hotels Make the Cut
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.--Nov. 13, 2000--Nine restaurants have been added to the list of AAA Five Diamond winners, the highest number added to the prestigious list in 10 years, says AAA. In addition, three lodgings are new to the list.The rankings include two new restaurant winners from Chicago, which ties New York for the greatest number of Five Diamond restaurants with five each. Tru and Seasons Restaurant, in the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago, are the Chicago additions.
Other restaurants new to the list are: Le Baccara, Hull, Quebec; Nuances, Montreal, Quebec; Auberge Hatley Inn, North Hatley, Quebec; The Dining Room, in The Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel, Dana Point, Calif.; Victoria & Albert's, in Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Lake Buena Vista, Fla.; Seasons, in the Four Seasons Resort, Maui at Wailea, Wailea, Hawaii; and El Restaurante in the Four Seasons Hotel Mexico, D.F., Mexico City.
Three additional lodgings have garnered the AAA Five Diamond rating this year: The Ritz-Carlton Philadelphia; Buhl Mansion, Sharon, Pa.; and Omni Houston Hotel, Houston.
Five lodgings have distinguished themselves by winning the elite AAA Five Diamond rating for 25 consecutive years. These winners will receive special recognition at the awards dinner tonight at The Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, Scottsdale, Ariz.
Those honored are Marriott's Camelback Inn Resort, Golf Club & Spa, Scottsdale, Ariz.; The Broadmoor, Colorado Springs, Colo.; C Lazy U Ranch, Granby, Colo.; The Greenbrier, White Sulphur Springs, W. Va.; and Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver, Vancouver, B.C., Canada.
"One important aspect of quality service is consistency," said Alan Borne, managing director, AAA Publishing. "And these five have maintained the Five Diamond level of excellence ever since the ratings began in 1977. That's an amazing achievement."
The 108 winners -- 59 lodgings and 49 restaurants -- of the prestigious AAA Five Diamond rating for 2001 will be presented their awards here tonight.
"Each of these winners represents the ultimate in world-class service and facilities," said Borne. "That means their customers and our members can and should expect an extraordinary lifestyle experience."
To be considered for AAA rating and approval, lodgings and restaurants must undergo a thorough inspection by one of AAA's 60 full-time, trained, professional evaluators. Five Diamond establishments go through a more extensive review. Approximately 40,000 lodgings and restaurants will be listed in the 2001 AAA TourBook(R) guides, and less than one-half percent receive a AAA Five Diamond rating.
AAA first started listing accommodation information in its travel publications in the early 1900s. In 1937, the first field inspectors were hired to inspect hotels, motels and restaurants. In 1963, AAA began to rate all accommodations as good, very good, excellent and outstanding. The current one- to five-diamond rating system was introduced in 1977 and continues to be the recognized language of quality for North American lodgings and restaurants.
