Turtle Wax Outsources With GATX Logistics

CHICAGO--Nov. 8, 2000--Turtle Wax, Inc., a leader in car care after-market products for consumer use, has selected GATX Logistics, Inc. to operate its finished goods distribution center in Bedford Park, Ill. GATX Logistics assumed responsibility for the 200,000 square-foot dedicated facility in September. It previously had been operated in-house by Turtle Wax.
"We are pleased to be Turtle Wax's partner in supply chain logistics services," said Joseph A. Nicosia, president and chief executive officer, GATX Logistics, Inc. "Our track record for serving other clients in the Chicagoland market was instrumental in Turtle Wax selecting our company."
GATX Logistics is using its proprietary logistics management software, Total Logistics Solution(c), to provide for the efficient management of the facility. Radio frequency technology will be employed in the operation beginning in November to better facilitate the flow of information regarding inventory and product availability.
International auto appearance giant Turtle Wax, Inc., did not become the influential innovator it is today by chance. The last fifty-plus years are the direct result of hard work and risk-taking, starting with Ben and Marie Hirsch, who together created and built their company based on giving the automotive public what it needed, doing it before anyone else and better than anyone else.
While automobiles, the world and its people have changed several times over, Turtle Wax continues to lead the world in car care because it still anticipates the needs of drivers first and better. Over the lifetime of this extraordinary company, its leaders have repeatedly invested its resources in the best research and development talent to be found. Their purpose is to continue delivering superior products that respond to the needs of a public that today drives more, owns more and demands more of its automobiles.
