A New Generation of Visteon Voice Technology(TM) Demonstrates the Possibilities in Buick Bengal ConceptDEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 8 Visteon Corporation and General Motors have teamed up to announce and demonstrate the possibilities of automotive technology that will blend safety, personalization, comfort and convenience in the new Buick Bengal concept car. Advanced Visteon Voice Technology(TM) and CD6 Music System are working together to support the Buick concept of making the automobile a Quiet Servant -- an exciting new concept in automotive technology that will deliver a safer, more spacious interior, with increased personalization in a stylish, sporty all-new Buick concept. "We're pleased to team up with General Motors and demonstrate the possibilities of our leading edge technology for their customers," said Michael Johnston, Visteon president and chief operating officer. "Visteon Voice Technology(TM) allows drivers to keep their hands on the wheel and their eyes on the road while using their voice to control virtually anything on the interior or exterior of the car." Visteon Voice Technology(TM) is the first and only voice actuated automotive control feature that recognizes six languages (and regional accents) while ignoring surrounding sounds. Making it possible to be used in all types of automotive products from traditional hard tops, with the windows down to elegant and graceful convertibles, like the Buick Bengal. This advanced technology accepts more than 118 commands controlling nearly every function on the inside or outside of the vehicle from the six disk CD player to hood and headlight operations, to putting the top down and operating on- board navigation, adjusting temperature, seat location, and speed. The combination of Visteon Voice Technology(TM) and CD6 Music System delivers personalization in every aspect of vehicle operation, all designed to reduce driver distraction, keeping the drivers hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. Based on Visteon's leading edge technology it won't be long before this technology includes an in-vehicle Web browser that will translate e-mail to voice messages and spoken replies to text. In addition, Advanced Visteon Voice Technology(TM) confirms the driver's commands in the driver selected female or male voice. The voice control system eliminates the need for bulky dials and buttons to activate the various functions of the vehicle, opening the door for transforming the traditional instrument panel to improving automotive audio or other comfort and convenience features desired by today's consumer. Visteon Voice Technology(TM) was the first voice-activated technology used to control cellular phones in 1992.
