GM Profit Outlook Dims for 2001
9 November 2000
Bloomberg News reported that General Motors Shares Fell on 2001 Profit Concern. General Motors Corp. shares fell 6.5 percent on concern that 2001 per-share profit at the world's biggest automaker will decline from this year as light-truck demand slows and supply increases. General Motors slid $3.94 to $57, the biggest one-day decline in almost six months, after Goldman, Sachs & Co. analyst Gary Lapidus lowered his rating on the stock to "market outperform" from "recommend" and cut 2001 per-share profit estimates to $7.70 from $8.70. He forecasts General Motors will earn $9.08 a share in 2000.
