Dura Automotive to Close RV Components Manufacturing Facility

8 November 2000

Dura Automotive to Close RV Components Manufacturing Facility
ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich., Nov. 8 Dura Automotive Systems, Inc. , today announced that it will
cease manufacturing operations at its recreational vehicle ("RV") component
facility at 1120 North Main Street in Elkhart, Ind. The company expects to
take a charge related to the facility closing in the fourth quarter of 2000.
The Elkhart facility manufactures door, and window products for the
automobile, heavy truck, bus, and RV industries.
The decision to close the manufacturing facility reflects generally
sagging RV market demand, the ability to transfer automotive business to other
Dura facilities, and available RV manufacturing capacity at Dura's other
Atwood Mobile Products Division facilities. This business decision will
affect most employees associated with the manufacturing of these products.
The current sales, engineering, field service, and a small warehousing group
will remain at the facility. In addition, information technology employees
working at this location in support of Dura will continue to work in the
building. Approximately 300 employees in various manufacturing, sales,
engineering, and administrative functions are employed at the facility. The
orderly transfer of production will begin in December, and should be completed
no later than the end of the first quarter of 2001.
