Detroit Diesel Offers MSHA/CANMET Non-Gaseous Underground Mine Certified Ratings for Series 40 Engines
MSHA = Mine Safety and Health Administration
CANMET = Canada Center for Mineral and Energy Technology

DETROIT, Nov. 2 Detroit Diesel Corporation completed
certification of the Series 40 engine for use in non-gaseous underground
mines. Testing was conducted at the National Resources-Canada Diesel
Emissions Laboratory in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
The Series 40 engine is available in certified performance ratings of 175
hp at 2200 rpm (430 lb. ft. torque at 1500), 190 hp at 2200 rpm (485 lb. ft.
torque at 1500), 210 hp at 2200 rpm (520 lb. ft. torque at 1500), 230 hp at
2200 rpm (605 lb. ft. torque at 1500), and 250 at 2200 rpm (660 lb. ft. torque
at 1450).
The Series 40 engine is ideally suited for non-gaseous underground mine
equipment applications due to its significantly lower particulate ventilation
rate requirements compared to any competitive underground mining diesel
engines in its' power range. All Series 40 engines feature wet, replaceable
cylinder liners for maximum cooling and superior cylinder kit life, and
electronic engine management for optimum engine performance and low emissions.
Certified models are now available from Detroit Diesel in fan-to-flywheel
models. The Series 40 engine is certified for use in new OEM installations
and for repowering existing equipment for use in non-gaseous underground
mines.
The certification of Series 40 engine complements the range of Detroit
Diesel MSHA certified ratings from 82 to 650 horsepower; featuring the D700
Series, Series 50, Series 60 and 8V2000 Series engines.
