Strong S40 and Cross Country Performance Drive Volvo Year-To-Date Sales Ahead 10.1%
ROCKLEIGH, N.J., Nov. 1 Volvo Cars of North America, Inc.
maintained its strong year-to-date sales performance for the first 10 months
of 2000, finishing October 10.1% ahead of the same period of 1999.
October sales matched the pace of last year as Volvo retailers sold
10,405 units despite the limited availability of some new models. The company
sold 10,478 units in October, 1999. For the first 10 months of 2000, the
company sold 104,368 units vs. the 94,754 units sold during the same period of
1999.
The strength of the popular S40 compact (ahead 55.2%) and the rugged new
Cross Country helped maintain sales momentum in October as the first of the
sophisticated new S60 sedans arrived at Volvo retailers.
"There is strong demand across our entire line-up, especially the new
Cross Country and the S40 sedan. Despite limited availability of the new S60,
we are traveling at the record pace of last year. We expect to feel the full
impact of S60 in the last two months of the year as we sell down old
inventory. Across North America, we are ahead of last year's record with a
total of 111,354 units sold to date," said Mark LaNeve, President and Chief
Executive Officer of Volvo Cars of North America.
Volvo Cars of North America is part of the Volvo Car Corporation of
Goteborg, Sweden. The company provides marketing, sales, parts, service,
technology and training support to the 328 Volvo automobile retailers across
the country. The 2001 Volvo automobile line includes the flagship S80 luxury
sedan, versatile V70 wagon and rugged Cross Country, C70 coupe and
convertible, the sporty, new S60 sedan and compact S40 and V40 models.
