Automotive Hall of Fame Names Distinguished Service Citation HonoreesDEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 1 Vision, determination and creativity are skills of the five individuals who have been named to receive the Automotive Hall of Fame's 2001 Distinguished Service Citation. The recipients will be honored at the Automotive Hall of Fame & Popular Mechanics Annual Awards Luncheon Sunday, February 4, 2001, at The Mirage in Las Vegas, during the Annual Convention of the National Automobile Dealers Association. Distinguished Service Citation honorees are: Mong-Koo Chung, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Hyundai Motor Company; Michael H. Dale, retired President of Jaguar North America; Pat Moran, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, JM Family Enterprises and President, Southeast Toyota Distributors, Inc.; Ross H. Roberts, retired Vice-President, Ford Motor Company; Takeshi Uchiyamada, Director, Toyota Motor Corporation and Member of the Board. In addition, Kenneth L. Way, Chairman, Lear Corporation, will be honored at the same luncheon as the Automotive Hall of Fame's Automotive Industry Leader of the Year for 2000. The Distinguished Service Citation recognizes men and women who have made significant contributions to the motor vehicle industry through either sustained superior performance or a specific important achievement. Mong-Koo Chung, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Hyundai Motor Company, is credited with strengthening Korea's automobile industry. Chung started selling cars through Hyundai Motor Service in 1983 in Choongchung and Cheju Province and achieved sales of 120,000 units, (worth $5.9 billion) in 1997 following the establishment of a Korea-wide sales network. For more than 30 years, Mong-Koo Chung has been directly involved with car design and development, component development, manufacturing, sales and after- sales service, and developing an extraordinary understanding of vehicles. Michael H. Dale is retired President of Jaguar North America, the North American subsidiary of Jaguar Cars Limited, based in England. Headquartered in Mahwah, New Jersey, Jaguar North America administers Jaguar sales in the United States and has overall responsibility for Canada and Mexico. Prior to being named President, Dale had been responsible for all U.S. Jaguar Sales and Marketing activities, including advertising and sales promotion, since 1969. He assumed direction for service activities in 1981 and for parts in 1986. Dale retired on May 1, 2000, with 42 years of Jaguar service. Pat Moran is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of JM Family Enterprises, Inc. and President of its core company, Southeast Toyota Distributors, Inc., the world's largest private Toyota distributor. She is dealer/principal of Margate, Florida based JM Lexus, the largest volume Lexus dealer in the world. JM Family was listed as the 22nd largest privately owned company in the United States, according to Forbes' most recent ranking. It was also named the largest women-owned business in the U.S. by Working Women magazine for the past two years, has major operations in Deerfield Beach, Florida; Jacksonville, Florida; Mobile, Alabama; and St. Louis, Missouri. Most recently, JM Family ranked 23rd in Fortune Magazine's listing of the "Best 100 Places to Work" in the country. Ross H. Roberts, retired Vice President, Ford Motor Company and President and Chief Executive Officer, Ford Investment Enterprise Co. is recognized for developing and implementing distribution strategies across the full range of Ford Motor Company products. Roberts began his employment at Ford in 1962, and held a variety of positions in both Ford and Lincoln-Mercury -- ranging from regional and district sales positions, and corporate marketing positions, including Vice President and General Manager for both Lincoln-Mercury Division and Ford Division. His approach was one of respect and service, and he was known to visit dealerships around the country three days out of every week. Takeshi Uchiyamada is Director, Toyota Motor Corporation and a Member of the Board. He was Chief Engineer on the Toyota Prius, a hybrid-system vehicle. He showed great leadership in developing the Prius and brought to life various innovative ideas. The hybrid-system developed by Uchiyamada achieves drastic improvements in fuel efficiency and emissions performance.
