Spartan Motors Appoints President of Road Rescue, Inc.
Industry Veteran Steps into Leadership Role at Custom Ambulance Manufacturer

    CHARLOTTE, Mich., Nov. 1 Spartan Motors, Inc.
today announced the appointment of seasoned veteran Charles D.
Drake as president of Road Rescue, Inc., its subsidiary that manufactures
ambulance and other rescue vehicles.
    The Charlotte, Mich.-based manufacturer of custom RV chassis and emergency
vehicles said Drake brings 23 years of experience in the emergency vehicle
industry to Road Rescue, including 14 years of director-level sales and
operations experience in ambulance manufacturing.  As president, Drake will be
responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations, focused on increasing market
share for its custom vehicles and improving profitability of the subsidiary.
Road Rescue is one of three companies that comprise Spartan's Emergency
Vehicle Team (EVTeam).
    "Chuck brings a tremendous wealth of experience to Road Rescue, and we are
pleased to welcome him to our EVTeam of companies," said John Sztykiel,
president and chief operating officer of Spartan Motors.  "The EVTeam

    Drake joins Road Rescue from Indiana-based Medtec Ambulance Corp., where
he maintained responsibility for sales and marketing functions in addition to
operational activities for this ambulance maker.  He began his career as a
customer service manager at Medtec, formerly TEC Coach, and later served as
purchasing agent, production manager and sales director before becoming
operations manager in 1992.  Drake currently serves as president of the
Ambulance Manufacturers Division of the National Truck Equipment Association.
    Established in 1976, St. Paul, Minn.-based Road Rescue, Inc.
