State Traffic Safety Director Appointed To National Position
OLYMPIA, Wash., Oct. 31 Traffic Safety Commission Director
John Moffat has been selected to chair the National Association of Governors'
Highway Safety Representatives (NAGHSR).
Moffat, director of the state Traffic Safety Commission since 1995,
replaces Craig Allred of Utah in the NAGHSR chairmanship.
Moffat is a former Captain of the Seattle Police Department and a
nationally recognized expert in the area of pedestrian law enforcement and
safety.
"The Western states, particularly California and Oregon, have made the
biggest strides in reducing our vehicle death rates. As chairman of NAGHSR, my
goal is to help all states bring their death rates down with innovative
programs and tough traffic laws," Moffat said.
NAGHSR is the voice of the states on matters concerning highway safety.
The Association is comprised of the directors of all state traffic safety
offices and advises the Congress and the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration on issues related to state implementation of traffic safety
laws and programs.
"NAGHSR's mission is to provide leadership in the development of national
policy to ensure that highway safety programs are effective," Moffat said.
