State Traffic Safety Director Appointed To National PositionOLYMPIA, Wash., Oct. 31 Traffic Safety Commission Director John Moffat has been selected to chair the National Association of Governors' Highway Safety Representatives (NAGHSR). Moffat, director of the state Traffic Safety Commission since 1995, replaces Craig Allred of Utah in the NAGHSR chairmanship. Moffat is a former Captain of the Seattle Police Department and a nationally recognized expert in the area of pedestrian law enforcement and safety. "The Western states, particularly California and Oregon, have made the biggest strides in reducing our vehicle death rates. As chairman of NAGHSR, my goal is to help all states bring their death rates down with innovative programs and tough traffic laws," Moffat said. NAGHSR is the voice of the states on matters concerning highway safety. The Association is comprised of the directors of all state traffic safety offices and advises the Congress and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on issues related to state implementation of traffic safety laws and programs. "NAGHSR's mission is to provide leadership in the development of national policy to ensure that highway safety programs are effective," Moffat said.
