DVRPC Announces Try Transit Week & TransitChek Winners
PHILADELPHIA--Oct. 30, 2000--The Delaware Valley celebrated Try Transit Week last month during the week of September 10 - 16, 2000.Throughout the week, many area transit agencies held special events in appreciation for regular transit users and also led a targeted outreach effort to non-riders about the economical and environmental benefits of using public transportation.
Try Transit Week commenced with a feature on FOX Focus on September 10th.
Mr. Jack Leary of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Provider (SEPTA), Mr. Jeff Warsh of New Jersey Transit, Mr. Ray Miller of DART First State and Mr. Paul Drayton of the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) representing the Port Authority Transit Corporation (PATCO) all were interviewed on the benefits of taking public transportation.
SEPTA held two events, one at Suburban Station (9/11) and the other at Market East (9/12). SEPTA General Manager, Jack Leary and SEPTA staff greeted passengers and handed out small gifts in appreciation for riding SEPTA. Good Day Philadelphia (FOX) hosts Janet Zapala and Grover Silcox quizzed transit riders at Market East for prizes.
DART First State (9/11) held their event at Rodney Square in Wilmington. DART Director Ray Miller and staff greeted passengers with gifts of appreciation. PATCO staff greeted passengers at all their stations (9/13). They also handed out small gifts of appreciation.
The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) promoted public transportation and TransitChek, the commuter voucher program, at the various events during Try Transit Week. Commuters submitted their names in a raffle for TransitCheks. At the end of each event, winners were drawn from the entries. The DVRPC presented the following winners with a $30 TransitChek.
SEPTA riders: Trudi Wright, Darlene Adams, Lynn Heinel and Alex Loeb all won TransitCheks at the events at Suburban Station and Market East. Two PATCO winners were drawn at the Woodcrest Station: Lewis Proffitt II and Andrea Rollins. DART First State riders Carmen Brown and William Mann won TransitCheks at the event in Rodney Square.
Congratulations to all those who participated in Try Transit Week and to the winners of TransitCheks.
