General Dynamics Defense Systems is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics . Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Effective immediately, Devcor Inc. will be incorporated into and will conduct business as an element of General Dynamics' TechSight business area. "The automotive repair industry has long recognized the value of receiving repair data in a paperless form," said Doug Belair, vice president of TechSight. "Through our TechSight technologies, mechanics can make repairs faster and more accurately, and Devcor is positioned to expand our ability to deliver technologies to a larger segment of the automotive repair market." Dale Craig, president of Devcor, said, "Devcor has been a principal developer of data delivery and shop management software for third-party automotive repair businesses since 1995. The shop management and labor- estimating software that we created is one of the most widely used in the automotive after-market industry. Devcor has also developed software that supports operation of automotive scan tools and software that enables CD and web-based delivery and display of automotive repair information." Over the past five years, General Dynamics has been building a position as a supplier of on-line maintenance and repair manuals, electronic content management and on-line documentation delivery solutions for military, airline, automotive and publishing customers through its TechSight business area. "During in-depth discussions over the past few months, TechSight and Devcor became convinced our businesses were highly complementary," Belair explained. "We recently opened offices in Detroit and Pittsburgh, and the acquisition of San Diego-based Devcor expands TechSight's national reach to better serve our growing customer base." "Devcor also strengthens TechSight's technical base," said Belair. "Our web-based technologies and engineering skills are extremely complementary. Together, we'll bring better and more cost-effective solutions to our current customers and more rapidly add new customers and new vertical markets to our backlog."
