Over 15,000 ISO and IEC Standards Now Downloadable from Techstreet
ANN ARBOR, Mich.--Oct. 30, 2000--The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and Techstreet, a leading e-commerce provider of industry standards and technical information, have signed an agreement that enables the instant electronic delivery of more than 15,000 industry standards and test methods from Techstreet's Web site, http://www.techstreet.com.Visitors to the Techstreet Web site will have instant access to over 10,000 standards from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and over 5,000 from the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) in PDF format. Visitors to the Web site can search for the standards and then choose to order a hardcopy for delivery or download the document right to their desktop as an electronic file using a credit card. The files are fully text-searchable.
The ISO, composed of representatives from 130 countries, offers an international consensus on the state-of-the-art of any given technology. The group governs everything from the standard size of a sheet of paper to the parameters used to record CDs and DVDs.
The IEC, composed of 50 member countries, prepares and publishes international standards for all electrical, electronic, and related technologies. This embraces all electrotechnologies including telecommunications, electroacoustics and energy production and distribution.
Because ISO standards are frequently updated, Techstreet has made the addenda and revisions available free of charge (in PDF format) to all visitors of the Web site.
Bob Feghali, Vice President of Business Development and Chief Information Officer of ANSI said, "ANSI's primary mission is to support and promote the U.S. and global voluntary consensus standardization system and to promulgate the resulting standards through the most qualified and convenient channels. As the U.S. member of the ISO and, via the Institute's U.S. National Committee, the IEC, we want to ensure that technical data from these organizations is readily available to the users of standards. The agreement between ANSI and Techstreet will help us to achieve this goal."
Techstreet's President, Gregg Hammerman, remarked, "The addition of ISO and IEC standards in PDF format contributes to Techstreet's goal of becoming the single-source technical information hub. It reflects our commitment to deliver information faster and more efficiently to our customers. In the end, we save them money and shorten the time to market."
