(PRNewsFoto)[KI] CAMPBELL, CA USA 05/04/2000CAMPBELL, Calif., Oct. 30 In order to add variety and a bit of history to its already cutting-edge simulated race driving experience, Silicon Entertainment has added Daytona International Speedway, one of NASCAR's most storied tracks, to its NASCAR Silicon Motor Speedway(TM) Racing Centers around the country and fans are going wild. (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20000504/SENTLOGO ) "This is amazing," says David Zoriki, a customer from Torrance, California who also races professionally. "There is nothing like what is available at NASCAR Silicon Motor Speedway. Even beginners can run flat out at 200 miles per hour and get a good feel for driving a stock car. And more advanced drivers will have to learn how to draft with a partner to get the lead on Daytona's backstretch. It's a fantastically realistic experience!" According to Lee Knowlton, vice president of operations at Silicon Entertainment, Daytona International Speedway, the company's most renowned racing venue to date, is among a number of new realistic features that have been added for the 2001 racing season. Even new tire specifications have improved the race cars' "grip" on the track. Knowlton says all of the changes "add up to a significant leap forward in our continual efforts to improve the most realistic and entertaining racing experience in the world." For example, Knowlton says that Daytona's high-speed drafting feature is the same sensation the pros actually experience on the super-speedway track when cars race nose-to-tail. "The front car breaks the air for the line of cars following," explains Knowlton. "That not only allows the back cars to drive faster due to less air resistance, but actually makes the front car go faster, too." The impact of the drafting feature is how dramatically it changes a driver's racing strategy. "Passing is easy, but can be dangerous," Knowlton says. "A line of drafting cars moves faster than a single car or even two cars racing side-by-side. You have to stay close to the car in front of you, get momentum up, then pull out and slingshot past him to take the lead." With Daytona's heightened realism, competition not only becomes more sophisticated but also team oriented, an especially important feature for the booming racing leagues that have become an integral part of the daily racing environment at NASCAR Silicon Motor Speedways. "When you race at Daytona, team driving is the name of the game," says Knowlton. "You need partners to draft with. This is a competitive angle that everyone, including our hard-core racing league drivers, thinks is great. If you race alone on Daytona, you probably will lose. The trick is not to fall out of the lead pack and get hung out to dry. Drivers have to stay together and work together to be successful." Daytona International Speedway is a 2.5 mile long, 40-foot wide, D-shaped, completely banked (from 3 degrees in the backstretch to 31 degrees in the turns) track with four turns and long chutes. It is the fourth track available to NASCAR Silicon Motor Speedway customers. The Speedway's other simulated tracks are Atlanta Motor Speedway, Lowe's (Charlotte) Motor Speedway and Richmond International Raceway. Licensed by NASCAR(R), NASCAR Silicon Motor Speedway features state-of-the-art stock car simulators that provide the most intensive auto racing experience in the world, immersing drivers in realistic NASCAR Winston Cup race track conditions and sensations, including banked turns, speeds up to 200mph and door-to-door bumping. The thrill is getting behind the wheel in one of the nearly life-sized, fully-interactive, two-seat, 750hp stock cars in an intense, simulated race. Players receive detailed printed race results in the Winner's Circle. The race driving centers also offer pre-race driving instruction, grandstand spectator seating, and racing merchandise for sale.
