PPG Buys Dean & Barry Retail Paint Business

    PITTSBURGH--Oct. 27, 2000--PPG Architectural Finishes, a subsidiary of PPG Industries , completed its previously announced purchase of the retail paint business of New Dean & Barry Ltd., Columbus, Ohio.
    Terms of the transaction, which included 21 retail stores, primarily in Ohio, were not disclosed. It strengthens PPG's architectural coatings business in Ohio and supports its strategy of utilizing established brands to expand the business.
    The acquired stores will continue to sell Dean & Barry and Pittsburgh Paints products, as well as sundries, wall coverings and decorative products. PPG also owns the Olympic, Lucite, Porter and Monarch brands, and distributes its products through more than 2,500 independent dealers and about 240 company-owned stores.
