AMA: Jason Tyer is U.S. Flat Track Rookie of the Year
27 October 2000
PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- AMA Pro Racing announced today that Jason Tyer is the 2000 AMA Progressive Insurance U.S. Flat Track Championships Rookie of the Year. The award is presented each year to the rider who, in his first full season as a Grand National license holder, gains the most points in the series. Tyer, of Irving, Tex., placed this year 28th out of 42 riders earning championship points in the series. He began his AMA Pro racing career in 1996 when he became a Pro Sport rider and steadily gained enough points for his Grand National license. He reached that goal by the end of the 1999 season, placing fourth overall in the 600 Hotshoe series and 18th overall in the Harley-Davidson Sportster Performance series. Tyer, also known as "Racin' Jason," has been racing motorcycles since age 4, and he has racked up numerous amateur championships in various classes. Tyer will receive the award during the 26th annual AMA Pro Racing Awards Banquet set for December 8 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nev.
