CON-WAY Announces Executive Appointment J. Edwin Conaway Named President and CEO of Con-Way NOW
ANN ARBOR, Mich.--Oct. 27, 2000--J. Edwin (Ed) Conaway has been promoted to president and chief executive officer of Con-Way NOW. The announcement was made by Gerald L. Detter, president and chief executive officer of Con-Way Transportation Services (CON-WAY).Conaway, 45, was previously Con-Way NOW's most senior executive holding the title of vice president and general manager. He will continue to be responsible for day-to-day management, operations and overall financial performance of Con-Way NOW. The company is an air and ground freight carrier specializing in emergency and express service, with its headquarters in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
"Ed's leadership abilities, transportation experience, management vision and performance throughout his career at CON-WAY have been exemplary. He has successfully led Con-Way NOW through numerous service expansions and created a leading organization within the expedite industry," said Detter. "His appointment helps assure a bright future for the organization." Conaway grew up in the transportation industry having worked throughout high school and college in operations positions with his family's trucking company, Gordons Transports of Memphis, Tenn. In 1987 he joined Con-Way Western Express (CWX) as a service center manager in Sacramento, Calif. and shortly thereafter was promoted to region manager for northern California. In 1993 he was promoted to vice president of operations for Con-Way Southwest Express. When Con-Way Southwest Express and Con-Way Southern Express (CSE) combined operations under the CSE banner in 1995, Conaway was named vice president of operations responsible for the less-than-truckload carrier's service network. In 1997 he was promoted to vice president and general manager of Con-Way NOW.
Conaway is a graduate of Golden Gate University, San Francisco where he earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration.
