Digital River Launches e-commerce Site for Polaris Industries

MINNEAPOLIS--Oct. 26, 2000--Digital River, Inc. , the world's largest Commerce Service Provider (CSP), today announced the launch of a new e-commerce site for Polaris Industries, the world's largest snowmobile manufacturer and one of the largest U.S. manufacturers of ATVs and personal watercrafts. The site, located at www.purepolaris.com, represents Polaris' first e-commerce venture. The new site offers Polaris' North American customers and its employees direct and easy access to Polaris brand apparel and vehicle accessories. As part of the agreement with Polaris, Digital River will build, host and manage e-commerce operations as well as provide e-marketing services to drive site traffic and maximize revenue opportunities.
"We are excited about partnering with Polaris and helping them grow their business by providing them a new way to sell their products," said Joel Ronning, Digital River's CEO. "With our fully integrated sell-side e-commerce system and e-marketing tools, we are extending Polaris' business model to an e-commerce environment. Polaris, its customers and its partner channel will benefit."
The new e-commerce site offers Polaris enthusiasts easy access to products. When they visit the site, consumers can shop for Polaris' complete line of apparel and vehicle accessories, and access links to their local dealer. Through a separate log on, Polaris employees can also purchase Polaris brand merchandise.
Polaris' dealer network plays an important role in the company's new site. Polaris intends to leverage the site to promote stronger relationships between dealers and consumers. Polaris is offering its dealers incremental revenues when they are identified by customers making Internet purchases. The company also plans to offer its Internet customers the option of returning on-line purchases through its dealer network to drive store traffic, build customer relationships and increase dealer/consumer points of contact.
"By partnering with Digital River on this e-commerce initiative, we hope to attract new customers as well as offer all customers an increased level of service and convenience," said Tom Tiller, Polaris' CEO. "The site is designed to generate interest among customers and incremental sales for our dealers.
