Free Vehicle VIN Etching Offered in PhiladelphiaVehicle Identification Numbers Etched Onto Vehicle Windows As a Means of Theft Prevention PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 25 The Pennsylvania Auto Theft Prevention Authority and the Philadelphia Police Department will be holding a free VIN etching event on Saturday, October 28, 2000, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. The event will be held at the Franklin Mills Mall, 1455 Franklin Mills Circle, Philadelphia, PA. VIN etching is a proven theft deterrent, where the Vehicle's Identification Number (VIN) is etched onto all the vehicle windows. Would-be thieves resist stealing a vehicle that is VIN-etched because that vehicle is more easily identified and, if stolen, all glass must be replaced in order to remove traces of the VIN. This is a free service provided by the Authority. The Authority's staff, local police officers, and volunteers from local insurance companies will etch 400 vehicles (weather permitting) on a first-come, first-served basis. The Authority encourages you to spend some time with them on Saturday morning to help protect your vehicle. Pre-event questions about the Authority may be directed to Ken Robinson at 215-485-1636 or 717-975-0812.
