    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Oct. 25 Federal-Mogul's Manitowoc,
Wisconsin, piston ring facility completed one million hours worked without a
lost-time accident on September 13.  This milestone began January 4, 2000, and
was celebrated on September 24.

    "This achievement is 'manufacturing mastery' in motion," said Operations
Manager, Piston Ring Group, Maurice Ribble.  "This outstanding accomplishment
is not the number of hours worked, but the fact that no one incurred a lost-
time accident."
    The safety excellence this facility has achieved was rewarded last year
when the Manitowoc plant won the Federal-Mogul Health and Safety Significant
Improvement Bronze Award for 1999.  This award is given to a facility that
demonstrates significant safety improvement yearly.  The facility uses a
company safety score to assess the overall success of its efforts that is
based on recordable injuries, accidents and lost-time.
    In addition to these achievements, Manitowoc recently introduced Dupont's
safety training program, a systematic method to identify, stop and prevent
unsafe actions and behavior in the workplace and implemented Accident
Investigative Teams to continue its safety improvement.
