WestStart-U.S. Army National Automotive Center to Host Conference On Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicles; Conference to Explore Trends in Advanced Drivetrains and Fuels
PASADENA, Calif.--Oct. 25, 2000--WestStart and the U.S. Army National Automotive Center are hosting a heavy-duty vehicle conference, "Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicles for the 21st Century: Exploring Trends in Advanced Technologies and Fuels," March 21-23, 2001, at the Sheraton San Marcos Resort and Conference Center in Chandler, Arizona. The two-day conference will provide participants the opportunity to hear about the latest trends influencing advanced technologies and fuel choices for the 21st century heavy-duty vehicle industry.
Leading executives from truck and engine manufacturing companies, advanced technology companies, alternative fuel and oil firms , as well as high ranking officials from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, (EPA), the California Air Resources Board (CARB), and the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) are invited featured speakers. The conference is designed for individuals and companies who are part of the heavy-duty vehicle industry -- manufacturers, suppliers, technology developers -- as well as users of heavy-duty vehicles.
Heavy-duty vehicles -- both on and off-road -- are under more scrutiny than ever from regulatory agencies, which are requiring truck and engine manufacturers to reduce emissions and increase fuel efficiency. At the same time, the truck manufacturing industry is being hit hard by the increase in the price of diesel fuel. These concurrent trends are having a significant impact on the heavy-duty vehicle industry. Many new and cutting-edge advanced transportation technologies are making their way into the commercial marketplace to address these concerns -- from better, more fuel-efficient vehicle engines, cleaner diesel and alternative fuels, advanced propulsion systems, and on-board telematics. What does all this mean for the future of the heavy-duty vehicle industry? This conference will explore the answers.
Topics to be discussed include: Can fuel providers clean up diesel in an economically viable way to meet the concerns of the regulators? What are the prospects for synthetic fuels? Will the military lead the way by introducing a new fuel that will be adopted later? How commercially viable are new technologies? Is there a future for hybrid technologies in the U.S. heavy-duty vehicle industry? Will fuel cells have any impact on the industry before 2010? What are the best niches for alternative fuels?
This conference is designed to be a forum at which attendees hear and participate in discussions on the latest trends affecting advanced technologies and fuels for heavy-duty vehicles in the 21st century. Attendees will be provided valuable strategic partnership development opportunities with other executives, colleagues and decision-makers in industry and government. Representatives from both the traditional and non-traditional heavy-duty vehicle industry are invited to come and participate in this exciting and unique conference.
