NEC Electronics Appoints General Manager of Automotive SBU
     Experienced Manager Tasked to Expand Automotive Group in Dallas, TX

    SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 23 NEC Electronics has announced
that Yukio Kabeya has been appointed general manager of the company's
Automotive Strategic Business Unit (SBU) located in Dallas, TX.  He will
report to Junshi Yamaguchi, vice president of system LSI marketing.
    In his new role, Kabeya is chartered with expanding NEC Electronics'
automotive business in the rapidly growing North American marketplace and will
be responsible for managing the research, development and promotional
activities of the business unit, which was formally established in March 2000.
Kabeya will lead the U.S.-based marketing, applications and design support
teams that provide customers with the support needed to meet the requirements
of the fast-changing automotive industry.
    "Yukio Kabeya has an outstanding, 26-year career with NEC," said
Yamaguchi.  "His extensive experience in the technical development of
microcomputer ASIC design technology will be a strong asset to the automotive
group.  I am confident that his leadership will strengthen NEC Electronics'
position in the automotive arena in the United States."
    Kabeya transferred from NEC Corporation's 3rd System LSI Division in
Japan, where he was a senior manager of the System LSI Operations unit
supported the development of ASICs for graphic devices, games, workstations
and servers.
    Kabeya earned his B.T. degree in engineering from Aoyama Gakuin University
in Japan.
