Volvo Selects BorgWarner Fail Safe On/Off Fan Clutch

24 October 2000

Volvo North America Selects BorgWarner Fail Safe(TM) On/Off Fan Clutch as Standard Equipment
MARSHALL, Mich., October 23 BorgWarner Cooling Systems
Fail Safe(TM) On/Off Fan Clutch has been selected as standard equipment on all
Volvo trucks manufactured in North America. The agreement also involves the
continued supply of polymer cooling fans for all Volvo North American Class
8 trucks, including the new HD11, which sets new cooling standards for
heavy-duty applications.
"In today's marketplace OEMs are looking for suppliers that can offer
system solutions," explains Kent Damisch, Director of Commercial Sales,
BorgWarner Cooling Systems. "Volvo recognizes our ability to be a global
source for engine cooling solutions. Our continued emphasis on innovations,
quality, cost improvements and excellence secured this favorable selection."
The Fail Safe(TM) On/Off Fan Clutch model K22RA, currently supplied to
Volvo, is designed under normal operating conditions and proper maintenance to
offer one million miles of trouble-free service. Even if the fan clutch fails
completely, the vehicle can make it to a service facility without the engine
overheating. The newest On/Off model, designated K26RA, will be supplied to
Volvo later this year. The K26RA offers 25% more torque capacity while
offering the ability to handle larger diameter and horsepower fans than the
K22RA. The K26RA is an enhanced version of the K22RA and continues to offer a
modular design and ease of service.
The HD11 Heavy-Duty Truck Fan optimizes cooling performance and
durability. This eleven-blade fan delivers 10% more airflow with up to 6oF
more cooling when compared with previous models, without adding any weight.
