ADVISORY/South Coast Air Quality Management District Chairman William Burke Will Head Up a News Conference to Announce the Winners of the 12th Annual Clean Air Awards
--Who & What: South Coast Air Quality Management District Chairman William Burke will head up a news conference to announce the winners of the 12th Annual Clean Air Awards. A showcase of "air-friendly" technologies will surround the news conference, which will be followed immediately by the 12th Clean Air Awards luncheon. When & Where: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 25 Pershing Square, Downtown Los Angeles Details: -- AQMD will announce this year's leading companies, communities, and individuals who have worked to make Southern California's air cleaner. AQMD Governing Board members and this year's award winners will arrive in Pershing Square on a school bus outfitted with a device that filters out diesel soot from the exhaust. -- The press conference will showcase a number of the "air friendly" technologies and consumer products -- such as cars, clean paints, propane grills, and electric bicycles -- that are reducing pollution in the Southland. Exhibits on the winners also will be featured. -- A group of environmentally concerned students from high schools in the Southland will be attending, including several who have built their own electric cars, which will be on display. One student will speak on the importance of clean air programs. -- Following the press conference, the media is invited to attend the Clean Air Awards Luncheon across the street at the Biltmore Hotel on a complimentary basis.
