Knowledge Technology Innovation Prize Presented to Corus AE at UK Motor Show
LEXINGTON, Mass.--Oct. 23, 2000--Knowledge Technologies International's ICAD system breaks new ground
at Corus Automotive Engineering
Corus Automotive Engineering's pioneering tool for assessing the manufacturing feasibility of hydroformed automotive components, which won the international Knowledge-Based Organization (KBO) Prize 2000, was formally acknowledged at the UK Motor Show. The KBO trophy was presented to Mr Fokko Van Duyne, Joint CEO of Corus Group, by Garreth Evans, CEO of Knowledge Technologies International (KTI) on the Corus stand.
The prize was established to encourage innovation in engineering design applications using knowledge-based technologies, and is competed for annually by many of the world's leading automotive & aerospace manufacturers. With their winning application, Corus, the international metals supplier formed from the merger of British Steel and Hoogovens, will take a leadership role in the automotive industry, joining the top flight manufacturing companies who are previous winners, such as BAE SYSTEMS, Boeing, Caradon Everest, Dow Corning Wright, Ford, General Motors, Harris Corporation, Marley and UTC, using KTI's advanced ICAD(R) system.
CorusAE have pioneered the use of KTI's state of the art design process automation software in the area of hydroforming, a metal forming process that is as yet under-exploited in the automotive industry. An exciting new technology, hydroforming has the potential to reduce component mass and cost, and improve performance by up to 20 per cent. The KBO prize was awarded to CorusAE for their creative approach in defining and solving a market need, for the strategic nature of the application to their business, and the demonstration of clear return on investment and cost savings to be gained both by CorusAE and by their customers.
Fokko Van Duyne, receiving the award, said, "It is an honor to accept this accolade in recognition of Corus' advances in bridging the gap between materials innovations and product realization to meet customer aspirations throughout the automotive supply chain. The knowledge-based environment is intrinsic to our ability to offer superior, differentiated material and technology solutions whilst continually reducing the manufacturing lead-time and cost."
Garreth Evans said, "It's a hugely rewarding experience when we are able to recognize our customers for achieving true engineering excellence and world leadership through the use of our technologies. Our stated aim is to provide this 'edge' for all our customers. We congratulate the KBE team and visionary management at Corus and suggest there is much to be learned from their approach and ground breaking results."
About The KBO Environment
KTI's The KBO Environment(TM) with 'ICAD(R) Built In' is the advanced Knowledge-Based Organization (KBO) software tool for the intuitive management of complex processes. It enables a KBO to harness product definitions along with the knowledge base of its experts, product rules, performance data, legislative and safety codes and design best practices. It automates product development from concept to production. KTI's KBO technology has been proven in countless process automation applications for world-leading companies in automotive, aerospace and manufacturing industries, providing the most advanced knowledge deployment environment and regular returns on investment of over 100% and productivity gains in excess of 50%. The KBO Environment is a new family of KTI's Knowledge-Based Products comprising several inter-operative elements:
--Knowledge-based Comprehends, initiates, controls and Process Modeler (KPM) dynamically monitors complex and even fragmented enterprise-wide processes --Knowledge Server Easily captures and serves knowledge with ('ICAD Built In') --Knowledge Portal Intelligently searches for, delivers and archives knowledge --Knowledge Browser An intuitive environment to access and integrate your KBO applications --Knowledge Backbone Integrates distributed heterogeneous knowledge sources
