National Technical Systems Awarded Large Web Site Testing Contract by Major Automobile Manufacturer

CALABASAS, Calif.--Oct. 23, 2000--National Technical Systems Inc. (Nasdaq NM:NTSC) (NTS), a leading provider of quality and compatibility testing and staffing services for telecommunications, information technology and other industries, Monday announced it has been awarded a contract valued at more than $400,000 for Web site functionality testing by the Southern Calif.-based U.S. sales operations of a major Japanese automobile manufacturer.
According to NTS President and CEO Jack Lin, the company expects the testing contract will be expanded at a later date to include Web site stress testing, as well. NTS has access to a one gigabyte (1 billion bytes) per second pipeline to the Internet, which gives the company the ability to test the Internet's largest sites by simulating more than 25,000 simultaneous users to ensure against overloading.
Under the terms of the current contract, NTS will perform functional testing of the automobile company's Web site. This comprehensive site is a business-to-business Web-based application designed to serve the automobile manufacturer's dealerships throughout the United States. The site allows users to conduct any of their day-to-day business with the company's sales department, including such things as ordering cars, financing sales, ordering parts, receiving authorization for warranty work and many other business transactions.
Martin M. Dresser, president of NTS' Software/Hardware Testing Division, said, "The testing of this complex Web site is being accomplished by using NTS' extensive capabilities in this area, and tools from Mercury Interactive, the most widely used and respected software tools for this type of work. NTS will go through the complete Web site and test every element and button to be sure that they perform properly."
NTS Chief Operating Officer William C. McGinnis commented, "This contract represents an important milestone in a process we began late last year. We made a commitment to significantly expand our Web site testing activities, and this effort is a result of that focus. We anticipate that this business will expand significantly in the future."
