Emerson Electric's Berges Joins PPG Industries Board
PITTSBURGH--Oct. 19, 2000--Directors of PPG Industries today elected James G. Berges a member of the company's board. He is president of St. Louis-based Emerson Electric Co.Berges, 53, became Emerson's president in May 1999. He is responsible for the company's corporate growth and development activities as well as its electronics and telecommunications business.
He joined Emerson in 1976 and has held a variety of increasingly responsible operating and staff posts. He was elected to the Emerson board in 1997.
Berges is an electrical engineering graduate of the University of Notre Dame. He held manufacturing assignments at General Electric Co. before joining Emerson.
Emerson is a global leader in providing innovative technologies and solutions in five business segments: industrial automation; process control; heating, ventilating and air conditioning; electronics and telecommunications, and appliances and tools. Its fiscal 1999 sales were $14.3 billion.
PPG, founded in 1883, is the world's leading maker of transportation coatings, and is a major global supplier of packaging and industrial coatings, fabricated glass, continuous-strand fiber glass, and industrial and specialty chemicals. It has about 120 manufacturing locations in 23 countries, and PPG's 1999 sales were US$7.8 billion.
