Briggs & Stratton Corporation Elects Directors

    MILWAUKEE, Oct. 18 Briggs & Stratton Corporation :
    At the Annual Meeting held today, shareholders reelected the following
directors to a three-year term expiring in 2003:  Robert J. O'Toole, John S.
Shiely and Charles I. Story.
    David L. Burner, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of The
BFGoodrich Company, also has been elected a director of Briggs & Stratton
Corporation.  He was elected by the Board of Directors to fill the unexpired
term of Clarence B. Rogers, Jr., who retired.
