Roadway Express Adds Integrated, Time-Saving Applications to Customer-Specific Web Site

AKRON, Ohio--Oct. 18, 2000--Roadway Express, Inc. has made self-service easier and more efficient for its shippers on my.roadway.com, the company's password-protected, customer-centric Web site. My.roadway.com has attracted over 15,000 registered participants since its inception in August 1999. The new time-saving suite of applications includes an interactive online bill of lading (BOL) and its management system, and eTracking, a new application that allows users to receive shipment status updates via email.
Using input from customers on their current expectations and desires for the best way to conduct business on the Internet, Roadway's award-winning information technology (IT) team focused on customization and personalization of a customer's transaction history and profile information stored in the company's database to create this new integrated set of applications.
"The enhanced BOL and eTracking features are designed to complement and work with the existing Rate Quote and Pickup Request," said Vice President of Marketing for Roadway, William Michael. "Data entered in Rate Quote will carry over automatically into the BOL application, through to the Pickup Request and into eTracking, completing a seamless, integrated, user-friendly flow-through design."
The new online BOL will store and retrieve partial or completed bills from an online file folder. To save the shipper time of re-entering basic data for each BOL, many shipment details, such as name, address, commodity and NMFC classification codes, are already populated using information from Roadway's database. Upon completion of the bill, a Roadway PRO number will be automatically assigned to each BOL allowing the shipper to start tracking shipments immediately.
Roadway's new eTracking application provides the customer an opportunity to keep the entire supply chain informed by sending real-time shipment status messages via email to any party associated with the shipment. A shipper can select to receive status updates on specific PRO numbers, or all shipments, as freight moves through the Roadway system, upon its final delivery, or in the event the shipment is late.
In addition to these new integrated applications, the existing Roadway Reports has been modified. "Our customers can create and save customized reports that can be viewed online, downloaded or both," said Michael. "We have also added a report that displays open invoices during a specified time period."
Vice President and CIO for Roadway, Bob Obee, stated, "Our e-Commerce team has pulled together a myriad of ideas and skillfully crafted a wonderfully `nuanced' suite of convenient -- and really useful - features for our customers. Roadway's `triple strengths' in Marketing, IT and Project Management have once again put our customers on the leading edge of transportation technology."
From pre-pickup through post-delivery, my.roadway.com delivers a true one-stop-shop shipping experience. Additional applications include:

-- Proactive Tracking - View an online manifest that lists all active shipments in the Roadway system and provides real-time status reporting.
-- Invoices - View open invoices with links to their corresponding shipping documents.
