Detroit Diesel and GE Lubrizol to Offer Productivity And Planning Solutions to Mining Customers
    DETROIT and CLEVELAND, Oct. 18 Detroit Diesel Corporation
and GE Lubrizol, L.L.C. announced today that the companies have signed a
letter of intent to establish a business relationship that will provide mining
customers with productivity and planning solutions to boost asset utilization
and introduce greater maintenance efficiencies.  Under the proposed
arrangement, GE Lubrizol will supply patented real-time oil condition
monitoring and regeneration systems and both companies will jointly develop
additional remote monitoring and diagnostic services for Detroit Diesel
engines.
    By integrating real-time condition monitoring with a two-way communication
system, GE Lubrizol's Monitoring and Diagnostics Service Center (MDSC) will
provide maintenance and repair recommendations 24 hours a day, 365 days a
year.  It is expected that systems will be available for commercial
application in 2001.

maintenance intervals."
