AutoNation to License Autoweb's Proprietary Technology Platform
Autoweb to Provide Enhanced Vehicle Information and Shopping Modules to Web's
                      Largest Online Automotive Retailer

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 17 Autoweb.com, Inc. , the leading consumer automotive Internet
service, and AutoNation, Inc. , America's leading automotive
retailer, today announced a multi-year agreement under which AutoNation will
integrate Autoweb's automotive industry standard content and technology
platform to enhance its e-commerce initiatives. Additionally, AutoNation
dealers will continue to receive consumer referrals from the millions of
online Autoweb shoppers.
The Autoweb Automotive Information Center's (AIC) content and technology
will be featured in AutoNation's lead retail web site, AutoNation.com and on
its America Online version, AOL AutosDirect (AOL keyword: AOL AutosDirect).
Autoweb's AIC technology provides each AutoNation site with data on vehicle
features and specifications, as well as proprietary shopping tools.
"Our alliance with AutoNation is another example of Autoweb's 'Powered By'
initiatives in action, and further evidence of our increasingly robust efforts
in the business-to-business sector," said Dean DeBiase, chairman of
Autoweb.com. "We are already powering leading vehicle manufacturer and portal
web sites, and now we're partnering with the nation's largest automotive
retailer. Our content, data and technology are clearly becoming the standard
for the automotive industry."
This strategic alliance builds on what Autoweb has achieved in the
business-to-business Internet marketplace. Currently, all major automobile
manufacturers, including BMW, DaimlerChrysler, Ford, General Motors, Honda and
Toyota, use Autoweb's automotive data to power their sites. The major
consumer portals also use Autoweb's content and technology, including AOL,
Lycos, MSN Carpoint and GO. As Autoweb continues to set the standard in the
business-to-business marketplace, the company is providing its customers with
the most advanced technology to view automotive information, and the most
accurate and reliable automotive data and content. AutoNation will be among
the first customers to take advantage of Autoweb's next-generation automotive
research technology.

About Autoweb's Automotive Information Center (AIC) Technology:
Through Autoweb's data, technology and tools, visitors to sites powered by
the AIC technology are able to configure a vehicle by manufacturer, make,

provides a competitive advantage for dealers and enhances the shopper's
