McAfee Anti-Virus Products to Protect More Than 200 North American
GMAC Offices Against Internet Viruses and Malicious Code Attacks

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 17 McAfee, a
Network Associates, Inc. business, today announced that
General Motors Acceptance Corporation (GMAC), a wholly owned subsidiary of
General Motors Corporation , will use the McAfee Active Virus
Defense suite of products to protect its information technology infrastructure
against Internet viruses and malicious code attacks. As a result of
General Motors' deployment of McAfee products to 68,000 employees globally,
GMAC will deploy the McAfee Active Virus Defense line of products to more than
200 North American offices. GMAC manages sensitive financial information and
transactions, including on-line car auctions, and looks to safeguard its data
from virus and malicious code attacks using the McAfee Active Virus Defense
suite.
"McAfee products have demonstrated their ability to protect the
General Motors infrastructure, so making the decision to switch to McAfee was
an easy one," said Don Reid, director of operations management for GMAC.
"Leveraging the experience of our parent company, we were able to build a safe
and secure system at GMAC and, to date, have been well satisfied with the
results."
According to independent research organization Computer Economics, the
total worldwide damage done by computer virus attacks last year was
$12.7 Billion. Acknowledging these threats, GMAC acted to implement increased
security measures to ensure customer information was kept safe within their
secure network environments. GMAC now protects its IT infrastructure through
a multi-tiered anti-virus defense strategy using the McAfee line of products.
The entire security solution is centrally managed over the Internet via
McAfee's ePolicy Orchestrator product, one of the first anti-virus policy
management, enforcement, analysis and reporting solutions specifically
designed for easy administration.
The McAfee Active Virus Defense suite is an integrated, easily managed
Internet anti-virus security solution that enables e-businesses to centrally
manage their anti-virus policy. The suite offers customizable updates and
configurations, stops email-based virus outbreaks before they occur, and uses
graphical reporting methods to obtain a comprehensive view of savings provided
by each tier in their anti-virus defense strategy, all of which can be done
easily over the Internet.
"We are tremendously excited GMAC has selected McAfee to protect its
critical information infrastructure from potentially damaging virus outbreaks
and code attacks," said Michael Callahan, director of product marketing for
McAfee. "GMAC's confidence in our capabilities is extended proof of our
leadership in this area and demonstrates McAfee's leadership as a trusted
provider among the world's leading companies."
GMAC offers financial support for automotive financing, insurance,
mortgage and commercial lending. GMAC is using a select group of components
from the McAfee suite of products that best suit the company's Internet
security objectives. McAfee VirusScan software ensures solid desktop
anti-virus protection, adding granular content filtering and incremental
updating for more timely cures. Additionally, the McAfee NetShield product
provides bulletproof file-server protection, while the McAfee GroupShield and
WebShield products deliver solid groupware and Internet gateway protection.
Designed to stop virus outbreaks before they start, Outbreak Manager monitors
incoming and outgoing email for suspicious patterns and stops new
Internet-borne email viruses solely based on behavior.
GMAC will also benefit from the world-class virus researchers who make up
McAfee AVERT (Anti-Virus Emergency Response Team). McAfee AVERT is a
24x7 global research organization that works closely with customers and the
anti-virus community to provide up-to-date diagnostics, cures and protection
from new viruses. As with all McAfee customers, McAfee AVERT will work with
GMAC to proactively alert and protect the entire company from the increasingly
prevalent epidemic of virus attacks that flood the Internet.
