Bonita Software Demonstrates ToGo In-Vehicle Solutions, a Java based Telematics Technology at Convergence 2000
DETROIT--Oct. 16, 2000--Bonita Software Inc. will have its ToGo(R) In-Vehicle Solutions demonstrated this week at the Convergence Transportation Electronics Association's (CTEA) Convergence 2000 conference.
The technology is being utilized by BMW for a prototype and will be showcased at BMW's venue at Convergence 2000.
BMW chose Bonita's ToGo(R) In-Vehicle Solutions because of its Java(TM) based flexibility, remote downloading capabilities, and rapid development cycle. Various vehicle-centric and Internet-related applications will be demonstrated in conjunction with an intuitive user interface allowing simple, safe control of the vehicle environment.
Building Continuous Value:
Bonita's ToGo In-Vehicle Solutions allows auto manufacturers to remotely release and update new applications wirelessly to the auto in a branded fashion, and allows vehicle occupants to download customizable application sets.
"ToGo In-Vehicle Solutions eliminates the opportunity for obsolescence by enabling new and updated applications to be downloaded remotely throughout the life of the vehicle," states Mike Gollnick, the director of Vehicle and OEM Solutions for Bonita Software. "The life cycle of software is much shorter than the development cycle of an automobile. As software becomes a bigger part of the vehicle, this will become more problematic. Software integrated in the pre-production phase can easily become obsolete before the car even reaches the market."
The remote customer satisfaction management capabilities of the ToGo technology allows automakers to extend their brand by delivering valuable and timely services and applications to the vehicle. Once it is on the road everything from remotely unlocking doors when a customer locks themselves out, to transparently running diagnostic applications to assure the vehicle is operating at peak performance, to providing entertainment and information, can be done through a secure and centralized OEM-controlled environment. This gives the auto manufacturer the ability to monitor the authenticity of applications going to the vehicle.
With the dynamic wireless downloading and uploading features of the ToGo In-Vehicle Solutions, vehicle occupants can create multiple profiles containing unique information and entertainment programs to suit their individual needs. A driver can for example, create a "commute profile" that consists of route guidance, traffic & weather reports, stock quotes and e-mail access. Meanwhile, a "passenger trip profile" can be set up by a passenger to include office applications, games, movies, and music.
The ToGo In-Vehicles Solutions platform also makes it possible for "case-by-case" application use to exist. As an example, the vehicle manufacturer could deliver a specially configured power train calibration and gauge application to a customer for the time they are towing a boat. Once finished, the customer would simply cancel the subscription to the application and the power train and dashboard would resume their normal configurations. For travelers, point of interest information could be delivered as a traveler begins downloading map information.
A rapid and continuous development environment supported by Bonita's ToGo Development Kit allows third party application providers to create and supply an endless amount of value-added services for vehicle manufacturers to deliver to their customers.
