Watch for 'Prowlers' on Halloween

Watch for 'Prowlers' on Halloween
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 16 Chrysler will set loose its
first 100 orange Prowlers just in time for Halloween. Production for 2001
Orange Prowlers begins October 23, with these head-turning roadsters beginning
to arrive in Chrysler/Plymouth/Jeep(R) dealerships later this month.
"Prowler screams for high-impact colors like Prowler Orange," said Trevor
Creed, Senior Vice President - Design for DaimlerChrysler Corp.
"Complementing Prowler's unique design, this copper metallic orange is
striking and another great addition to Prowler's paint palette."
The manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) for an Orange Prowler is
$45,000. In addition, Prowler Orange trailers will be available through
Mopar, the Chrysler Group's original equipment parts division, at a
manufacturer's suggested retail price of $5,075.
Through September of 2000, more than 6,300 Prowlers have been sold in
North America. Of those Prowlers sold, 1,839 were black, 1,385 were red,
1,354 were purple, 959 were yellow, 688 were silver, and 100 were black/red
two-tone.
When the Plymouth brand is discontinued after 2001 model year, Prowler
will continue to be manufactured and sold through North American
Chrysler/Plymouth/Jeep(R) dealerships. Beginning in January of 2001, Prowler
will be branded as a Chrysler.
Visually, Prowler pays tribute to the rolling art of hot rods. Prowler
also embodies some of the most advanced technology and materials and has the
distinction of being North America's most aluminum-intensive vehicle. It was
only a few years ago that the idea of mass producing a factory hot rod seemed
too radical of a concept for any major automaker to undertake. Since then,
however, the Chrysler Group's concept-to-reality roadster has cruised into the
hearts and garages of passionate automotive enthusiasts in North America.
Prowler first appeared as a concept car at the 1993 North American
International Auto Show in Detroit. Favorable response prompted the former
Chrysler Corporation to unveil a production version of Prowler at the 1996
North American International Auto Show. Prowler production began in July of
1997 as a 1997 model. An average of 14 Prowlers are manufactured daily at
Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit and are built alongside the Dodge
Viper production line.
