(Yazaki), a leading supplier of vehicle power and data solutions to the automotive industry, today announced its support of the advancement of the electronics/electrical industry through its sponsorship of Convergence 2000. Yazaki, an industry leader in the development of advanced technology such as 42-volt vehicle networks and fiber optic data transfer networks, is a Gold Sponsor of this year's event, the largest in its history. "As one of the leading suppliers of electrical and electronic components to the automotive industry, Yazaki wanted to show its support for Convergence and the importance of bringing the industry together to share ideas and to promote what has become the fastest growing content of an automobile," said Tetsuro Suzuki, Yazaki's president and CEO. In keeping with this year's theme, "Automotive Electronics: Delivering Technology's Promise," Yazaki will display its most recent advances in the area of 42-volt technology. On hand will be a Jeep(R) Grand Cherokee that dramatically demonstrates Yazaki's solution to the complex problem of power delivery to loads requiring varying degrees of voltage, such as lamps. The joint Yazaki/JCI solution also demonstrates the applicability of 42-volts to other major vehicle components such as the alternator and starter. Additionally, Yazaki will be displaying its application of MOST technology, one of the standards being considered for multimedia data transfer, including telematics. The full product offering of Yazaki will be available for examination as well, including wire harnesses, connectors, instrumentation, switches, fiber optics, and junction blocks. The world's premier automotive electronics conference, Convergence 2000 is sponsored by the Convergence Transportation Electronics Association (CTEA), which founded the conference more than 25 years ago; the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers (IEEE); and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Proceeds form the conference benefit the Convergence Education Foundation, a non-profit organization devoted to developing a passion for mathematics and science in inner-city, school-aged children.
